Brockenchack 'Jack Harrison' Shiraz Eden Valley 2018
DESCRIPTION
Named after the grandson of Brockenchack founders Trevor and Marilyn Harch; Jack is currently in training to become Brockenchack’s future winemaker and viticulturist. Made from our single vineyard Shiraz vines which boast an average vine age of 50yrs, this cool climate premium Shiraz is handcrafted to be elegantly smooth and approachable.
These grapes are hand selected and picked at their optimum Baumé. The wine is traditionally made by partially crushing the grapes into open top fermenters with 10-14 days on skins. It is then basket pressed and left to mature in new French oak barrels for a minimum of 2 years.
The colour of the 2018 Jack Harrison is the first indication of something special... inky black depths with bright purple edges. The nose is a concentrated combination of darker cherry fruit, French oak spice and the characteristic cassis/star anise top notes. The palate is a massive mouthful of chewy black juicy fruit, wrapped around a weighty oak core, with an extended length that promises to develop into something of significant power and elegance.
Early estimates suggest this wine will still reward up until 2033 but with gentle decanting, it is approachable right now.
